After a break of more than seven months, power distribution agencies are going to give new electricity connections to consumers on
some specific conditions, including installation of solar panels.
A power division notice on Monday said 50 per cent of the applicants would be given new connections following the serial of dates of submission of demand notes.
Power distribution agencies will have to provide at least 500 megawatts of electricity as around 4 lakh applicants have applied for over 1,000MW of electricity till September, 2010.
The notice did not mention a specific timeframe for giving new power connections or how the rest of the consumers would get connections.
No one will be allocated electricity for air conditioners except important establishments. Distribution agencies will ensure the use of compact fluorescent lamps and other energy saving devices.
Consumers having solar panels would be given priority for new connections.
Applicants for less than 2kw would be asked to install solar panels.
Besides, residential consumers demanding above 2kw load would be requested to install solar panels for 3 per cent of their load. Industries and commercial consumers demanding up to 50kw load should install solar panels for supply of 7 per cent electricity, those demanding more than 50kw load would have to install solar panels for 10 per cent electricity and for garment industries it is 5 per cent of the total load.
The chief of every distribution agency would report the update of new connections and installation of solar panels to the power division every week.
Power distribution agencies stopped giving new connections to consumers by order of the government with effect from April 1, 2010 to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for irrigation in Boro season and keep load shedding under control.
