Thirty-one Bangladeshi students secured the highest marks worldwide in 14 subjects in GCE O-level examinations and another 21 in six subjects in A-level exams in 2008-2009 academic session.
Two students obtained A grade in 11 subjects in the 2009 O-level exams and three others in six subjects in the 2009 A-level exams.
They were among the 1,118 O-level and A-level students awarded by The Daily Star at a ceremony in the capital’s Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium yesterday for good results under Edexcel International and Cambridge International Examinations.
Nandita Hore from SFX Greenherald International School obtained 11 A’s in a single sitting in O-level exams in May-June, 2009 and Shafkat Fahmid from Cider International School 11 A’s in two sittings — two A’s in January and nine A’s in May-June exams last year.
Students are permitted to take O and A-level exams in multiple sittings.
In A-level exams, Ishman Ahmad from Sunshine Grammar School and College got six A’s in one sitting in May-June, 2009 while Nafis Anwari from European Standard School six A’s in one academic year — one A in January and five A’s in May-June, 2009. Samiul Karim from Scholastica secured six A’s in one academic year — in January and May-June, 2009.
Twenty-two O-level students scored the highest marks worldwide in Pure Mathematics, Accounting, Bangla, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Human Biology, Bangladesh Studies, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Computing, Physics, French and Human and Social Biology under the Edexcel board.
Twenty-one A-level students under the same board obtained the highest marks worldwide in Accounting, Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Chemistry, Law, and Physics.
Nine O-level students under Cambridge International Examinations scored the highest marks worldwide in Additional Mathematics, Bangla, French, Human and Social Biology, and Mathematics.
Fourteen students each obtained the highest marks worldwide in Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Additional Mathematics in O-level exams and in Accounting in A- level exams.
