Two children were injured and 100 houses damaged as a tornado hit four villages under Bholahat and Nochole upazilas in Chapainawabganj district Sunday night.
Sources in the local administration said that the tornado hit Pirgachhi and Ghaibari villages in Bholahat upazila and Gopalnagar and Ghion villages in Nachole upazila at around 8:30pm.
The tornado lasted for ten minutes, the sources added.
Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension, said many mango trees on 27 hectares of land were uprooted and crops on vast tracts of land damaged in the violent storm.
Ziaur Rahman, lawmaker of Chapainawabganj-2 constituency, Sarder Sarafat Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj, visited the tornado-hit areas Monday morning.
UNB adds: At least 50 people, including four Ansar members and a policeman, were injured and over 300 houses damaged as a violent storm swept two villages in sadar upazila of Meherpur district Sunday midnight.
Saiful Islam, chairman of Amjhupi union parishad, said the tornado hit Chandbil and Jhaubaria villages under Amjhupi union around 12:05am and lasted for a few minutes, leaving 50 people, including four members of Ansar and one policeman, injured.
Of the injured, eight were admitted to Meherpur General Hospital.
The tornado uprooted a large number of trees and damaged crops on vast tracts of land, halting traffic movement on the Meherpur-Chuadanga Highway.
Later, traffic returned to normalcy as fire brigades removed the uprooted trees from the highway.
BSS reports: A tornado lashed two villages under Parbatipur upazila in Dinajpur, injuring four persons and damaging houses, shops, trees on Monday, officials and locals said.
UNO of Parbatipur Rahenul Islam and chairman of Bilaichandi union parishad Noor Mohammad said that the tornado lashed Cannel Bazaar and Baghachora Hortokitola village in the upazila at around 1:40pm.
At least 25 houses and 35 shops were damaged and many trees uprooted in the tornado.
The local administration was assessing the damages for conducting relief and rehabilitation activities, the sources said.
