Jeeps Collide Head-on
6 killed, 31 hurt
At least six Rohingyas were killed and 31 others injured in a head-on collision between two jeeps on Teknaf-Cox’s Bazar highway in Ukhia yesterday.
The deceased are Ali Ahmad, 45; Abul Bashar, 35; Md Belal, 35; Nurul Haque, 37; Abdus Salam, 21; and Saydul Amin, 30. The accident occurred as a Teknaf-bound jeep, locally known as ‘Chander Gari’, from Ukhia had collided head-on with another jeep bound for Cox’s Bazar in TNT area on the highway around 7:30am, said Md Giasuddin Miah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ukhia Police Station.
Five people were killed on the spot whereas 32 others had sustained injuries, he said.
Critically injured Saydul Amin had succumbed to his injuries at MSF Hospital in the area, he added.
Five of the injured were rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital while another was shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
The other injured were given primary treatment at MSF Hospital, said on-duty doctor of the hospital Golam Akbar.
The Rohingyas have illegally been living in different refugee camps at Kutupalang in the upazila, police said.
