Principal arrested for pocketing fees!
Sixty two examinees of Dhaka Model Degree College could notsit for the Higher Secondary Certificate examinations which began on Sunday asthe college principal allegedly misappropriated their exam fees and failed toprovide them with admit cards.
Afzalul Haque Aziz, the principal of the college in Mirpurof the city, was arrested around 3:00 AM Sunday hours after Education Boardofficials sued him for embezzling the fees.
Abdul Latif Sheikh, office-in-charge (OC) of Kafrul PoliceStation told The New Nation yesterday that police sent him to the court.
Before the arrest, 62 HSC examinees of the college laid asiege to the office of Dhaka Education Board in the capital Saturday afternoonas the college authorities failed to provide them with admit cards even a daybefore the examinations were scheduled to start. As the protest was going on,chairman of Dhaka Education Board Prof Fahima Khatun summoned the principal ather office, said the OC.
During inquiry, the principal admitted to havemisappropriated the examination fees.
As the principal did not deposit the money to the EducationBoard, paid by the students it did not issue admit cards, the OC quoted theprincipal as saying. On instruction from the Education Board chairman, theprincipal was later sent to Kafrul Police Station.
After primary investigation, a case was filed in thisconnection with the police station around 3:00 AM and the principal wasarrested.
