73pc students pass JSC, JDC exams

In the first-ever Junior School Certificate and Junior Dakhil Certificate examinations, 73.04 per cent of the examinees have came out successful.
The pass rate in the school exams is 71.34 and the pass rate in the madrassah exams is 81.03. The results were published on Thursday. The exams were held during November 4–22.
The pass rate in the examinations is low compared with the pass rate of
the Primary Terminal Examinations and the Secondary School Certificate examinations.
This year, in SSC, the combined pass rate, under the 10 education boards is 79.98 while the figure is 92.34 for the Primary Terminal Examinations. The Primary Terminal Exams results were published on Tuesday.
The education minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, said that the comparatively low pass percentage was because that junior school and madrassah exams were held for the first time this year.
The government introduced JSC and JDC examinations this year by abolishing the junior scholarship exams and the final exams for Class VIII students.
This year, 15,05,391 students registered to take the JSC and JDC examinations; 13,96,599 of the students took the exams.
When the government claims that they were working to bring about a harmony in education in rural and urban areas, the results published on Thursday showed that students outside Dhaka could not do well in the exams.
The pass rate in the Dhaka education board is 80.58, in Rajshahi 63, in Comilla 73.56, in Jessore 62.45, in Chittagong 70.26, in Barisal 81.75, in Sylhet 61.97, and in Dinajpur 62.18.
The number of students getting GPA5 is more in Dhaka than in areas outside the capital.
In Dhaka, 3,218 students got GPA5, in Rajshahi 1,508, in Comilla 624, in Jessore Board 740, in Chittagong 518, Barisal 478, in Sylhet 203 and in Dinajpur 763.
The pass rate is better in the junior madrassah exams than in the school exams. Boys fared well than the girls. The pass rate of boys is 75.65 and of girls 70.68. The number of GPA5 scorers is 4,820 among the boys and 3,736 among the girls.
The minister officially announced the results at a briefing at the secretariat at 3:00pm. The minister earlier handed over the results to the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina.
Nahid said that students who could not pass the examinations failed mainly in English, mathematics and science subjects. ‘We have formed three committees to investigate why students failed most in the subjects. The committees will give recommendations.’
The results are available on the web site www.educationboardresults.gov.bd and with the schools and madrassahs.
Of the successful candidates, 8,556 students got GPA5. Among the eight general and one madrassah education boards, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka has the highest number of GPA5 scores, 3,218, while the Sylhet board has the lowest number of GPA5 scorers, 203. The Madrassah Education Board has 504 GPA5 scorers.
No students of 367 schools who took the examinations came out successful and all the students who took the exams passed in 865 schools. Students of 27,289 schools took the exams.
Students also took the examinations in seven exam centres outside the country. Three hundred and twenty-six students took the examination in such centres and 320 of them came out successful. Of such students, two scored GPA5.
In the Dhaka board, the top three schools are Ideal School and College at Motijheel, Viqarunnisa Noon School and Monipur School.
In the Jessore board, the top three schools are Jhenidah Cadet College, Khulna Zilla School and Police Line Secondary School. Feni Girls’ Cadet College, Comilla Modern high School and Comilla Cadet College are the top three schools in the Comilla board.
In Rajshahi board, the top three schools are Pabna Cadet College, Rajshahi Cadet College and Bogra Government Girls’ High School.
Fauzdarhat Cadet College, Dr Khastagir Government Girls’ High School and Collegiate School are the top three schools in the Chittagong board; Barisal Cadet College, Barisal Government Girls’ High School and Barisal Zilla School in the in Barisal board; Rangpur Cadet College, Millennium Stars School and College and Amena-Baki Residential Model School in Nilphamari are the top three schools in the Dinajpur Board.
In the Sylhet board, Sylhet Cadet College, Blue Bird High School and Sylhet Government Pilot High School are the top three schools.
In the madrassah board, the top three institutions are Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrassah at Tongi, Darunnazat Siddikia kamil Madrassah and Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrassah at Demra.
The students will be given scholarship according to the result of the examinations. In 2009, 22,000 students were given scholarships. The minister said that the number of scholarship would be increased.
