The primary and mass education minister, Afsarul Ameen, officially announced the results at a press briefing at the secretariat at 12:00pm. Earlier the minister handed over the results to prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The government introduced the public examinations for Class V students in 2009. Only students of general schools sat for the exams last year. But this year, the Ebtedaye madrasa students also took the exams.
This year, some 24,88,138 students registered for taking the examinations at 6,000 examination centres across the country.
Of the total 24,88,148 students, 21,57,015 are from schools and 3,31,133 from madrasas. As per the number of students, the examination is considered to be the biggest public examinations in the country.
The examinations were held in Bangla, English, maths, religious studies, sciences and social sciences with a total 600 marks.
In primary terminal examinations, Al Yasa of the Kodalia Government Primary School in Tangail stood first, securing 598 marks.

The Manipur High School secured second position and the Ideal School and College, Motijheel, the third position.
No students of 2,787 schools who took the examinations became successful whereas in 51,576 schools, 100 per cent students passed the examination. Students of a total 85,891 schools took the exams.
The results were available at the website dpe.teletalk.com.bd, at schools and at the Upazila and thana education offices.
However, guardians complained that they had to face difficulties as the website of the directorate of primary and mass education (http://www.dpe.gov.bd/) was out of order. But it was said earlier from the directorate that the results would also be available at the website.
The students must pass the terminal exams to get enrolled in Class VI. Scholarships would be awarded on the basis of their results in primary terminal examinations.
This year, 55,000 students would be given scholarships.
