Bangladesh’s largest private carrier GMG Airlines expanded its footprint in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) by launching flights from Dhaka to Jeddah on August 8.
The respective civil aviation authorities of the two countries have given GMG Airlines permission to operate 10 flights per week. GMG Airlines will operate six flights from Dhaka to Jeddah and four from Dhaka to Riyadh.
Entering KSA market is a part of GMG Airlines’ expansion plan to become the most preferred airlines in this region by adding new routes and offering warmth hospitality to the passengers.
Christian Heinzmann, Chief Executive Officer of GMG Airlines said, “Entering into KSA market is a big boost for the airline considering the large number of Bangladeshi migrant workers living in Saudi Arabia.”
“GMG Airlines will soon add more routes and procure aircrafts to meet the growing demands of passengers,” said Heinzmann. The airline’s recently procured Boeing 767-300 ER Long Range aircraft which has a seating capacity of 264 and will be deployed for KSA routes.
GMG Airlines, the pioneer of airlines business in Bangladesh, has taken a substantial modernization project to accelerate its business growth. As a part of this project GMG Airlines has changed its logo in last May with new promises. To serve the increasing customers’ demand GMG Airlines has added new aircrafts in its fleet, launched a new web portal and gradually expanding the network of destinations linking the world with Bangladesh.
As a part of this modernisation program, GMG Airlines will soon manage electronic tickets via interfaces from a range of devices such as cellular phones, check-in kiosk, online check-in, boarding cards and baggage handling through Departure Control System.
GMG Airlines started operations on April 6, 1998. It began with domestic services and launched international flights in September 2004, with flights between Chittagong and Kolkata. Beximco Group, one of the largest industrial conglomerates in Bangladesh, acquired substantial shareholding of GMG Airlines last year to make its foray into growing aviation sector. The vision of the company is to become the most ‘preferred airline’ in the region.
