The shopkeepers may keep their business open throughout the night after 15 Ramadan across the country ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
It was disclosed on Sunday at a press conference jointly organised by Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) and Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association (BSOA) at the DPDC conference room in the capital.
The DPDC authority has however placed some conditions before the owners for keeping their shops open overnight, Prothom Alo reports
The owners have been directed to strictly ration on energy consumption and use only half the required lights and put the mercury lights and air conditioners off from Iftar to Tarabi hours.
Acting DPDC Managing Director AK Faridul Haque said all the markets and shopping malls would have to follow the instruction. Otherwise, the electric lines of the shops or markets will be disconnected, he added.
A joint team of the DPDC and BSOA will monitor the implementation and if they find any irregularity the electric lines will be cut off.
Amir Hossain, president of the BSOA, and its general secretary Quader Firoz Khan were present.
