The Bangladesh men’s and women’s teams both won their respective fifth round games in the open section of the 39th World Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia yesterday.
The men’s team defeated Malawi 4-0 while the women’s team beat International Committee of Silent Chess (ICSC) 3-1.
In the open section, FM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar beat Mwale Chuma, FM Abu Sufian Shakil beat Chipanga Chiletso, FM Mehdi Hasan Parag beat Nyambalo Joseph Xavier and Debaraj Chatterjee beat Mfune Petros.
With the victory, the men’s team secured four match points and ten game points.
In the women’ section, WFM Shamima Akter Liza beat IM Baklanova Tatiana, Sharmin Sultana Shirin beat WCM Mucha Annegret, WIM Rani Hamid drew with WFM Ryvova Anna and Masuda Begum drew with WIM Gerasimova Olga.
Women’s team earned five match points and nine game points.
