JBFH provides 100th ECP therapy
The Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital of Dhanmondi in the capital gave the 100th external counter pulsation therapy to a heart patient on Sunday, marking the 1st anniversary of the introduction of the therapy in the country.
The information was disclosed by the ECP heart therapy specialist Dr MA Baqui, also an assistant professor (cardiology) of the National Institute of Cardio-Vascular Diseases and Hospital, in a discussion meeting.
The JBFH and Citycell organised the discussion at JBFH lounge to raise awareness of people about prevention of heart diseases on the occasion of World Heart Day.
Baqui, also the introducer of the therapy, said the therapy was quite new in the country and was an alternative treatment of heart arteries blockage without any operation and with almost no side effect.
A total of 35 hours are needed for the treatment of a patient, he informed, adding that the patients are given the therapy six days a week, with one or two hours’ session.
The meeting, attended by medical experts, cardiologists, celebrities and representatives from different professional groups, also gave a call to spread heart disease treatment to the people living in rural areas of the country.
The medical experts and cardiologists informed that a total of 1.70 crore people die every year suffering from heart disease and 80 per cent of deaths could be avoided if healthy working environment and good health of heart could be ensured.
They suggested taking healthy foods, especially fruits and vegetables, avoiding excessive salt, taking exercise at least for half an hour every day, avoiding tobacco, keeping right weight of the body, avoiding mental pressure and checking blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose in blood and body mass index to avoid heart diseases.
Chaired by JBFH chairman Dr Jonaid Shafiq, the meeting was also addressed by civil aviation and tourism minister GM Quader, Nazmul Hasan MP, Professor Dr MS Akbor MP, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society chairman Dr Mizanur Rahman Shelley, Channel i head of news Shaikh Siraj, Citycell chief sales and distribution officer Mahabub Hossain and chief marketing officer Kafil HS Muyeed, JBFH director Professor AKM Fazlul Haque, adviser AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul, ECP heart therapy and heart specialist Dr MA Baqui and Dr MA Mohit Kamal, among others.
