Former national skipper Mohammad Ashraful will lead the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in the first warm-up match against New Zealand at the BKSP on October 1, the BCB said on Monday.
The BCB announced a 14-memebr squad for the match with top-order batsman Shamsur Rahman named as the vice-captain of the side. The squad included a host of national players.
BCB’s game development officer Sabbir Khan has been named as the manager of the side while Sarwar Imran, the former bowling coach of the national team, was named coach.
The selected players have been asked to report to the manager at the Shere-e-Bangla National Stadium in the afternoon on Wednesday.
New Zealand, who will play five one-day internationals against Bangladesh, will arrive today. They are scheduled to play two warm-up matches on October 1 and 3 prior to the start of the series.
Sources, however, said the fate of the warm up matches depends on an improved weather as the rain over the past few days made the ground at the BKSP almost unplayable. Ankle-deep water covered the ground on Monday, leaving the games very uncertain.
Squad: Mohammad Ashraful (captain), Shamsur Rahman (vice captain), Faisal Hossain, Shahadat Hossain, Mahbubul Alam, Syed Rasel, Nazimuddin, Nur Hossain, Dollar Mahmud, Rony Talukder, Nasir Hossain, Mohammad Mithun, Shabbir Rahman and Shuvagata Hom.
