Necessary documents, cash looted

A group of unknown attackers broke into Railway Bhaban in Dhaka on Sunday night, ransacking nearly 60 rooms, said officials.
A four-member probe committee has been formed headed by railway engineering department chief Habib Ahmed to investigate the incident, the director general’s personal secretary Sarder Shahdat Ali told bdnews24.com.
The committee has been asked to submit report by three days, he said.
“Authorities have temporarily suspended seven security guards in this connection,” security official Md Iqbal told bdnews24.com Monday morning.
“The seven are being quizzed,” he said.
Shahbagh Police Station sub-inspector Md Nasimuddin told bdnews24.com that employees at Railway Bhaban saw dozens of offices were broken into from the first to sixth floor when they arrived in the office on Monday morning
“We have been given a list of 56 rooms, which saw broken locks and cabinets and ransacked documents,” he said.
“We are investigating the matter.”
Accounting manager Philip Rosario told bdnews24.com that that money to the amount of Tk 86,000 was missing along with three mobile phone sets from the Bangladesh Railway Reform Consulting Project Office, situated on the sixth floor.
A laptop is also missing from the fifth floor, police said.
Railway director general Md Belayet Hossain said that they were holding a meeting in the morning.
Top police officials were also visiting the scene.
