‘I was cooking in my kitchen in the morning and suddenly flames of burner went out that gave me no scope to cook for my family till evening,’ said Shafinaz Sultana, a resident of Kalyanpur in the capital on Monday.
This was almost a common scenario of the consumers of state-owned gas transport and supply company Titas in the north-western part of the capital city as they have been experiencing shortage of gas due to leakage in the supply pipeline on the riverbed of Turag.
People living in Amin Bazar, Mirpur, Kallyanpur, Mohammadpur, Lalmatia, and some portion of Dhanmondi and Ganobhaban areas have been facing fuel shortage throughout the day due to disruption of gas supply.
The gas transport line was damaged by the bus which plunged into the river Sunday morning in an accident near Amin Bazar.
‘Technicians sealed the damaged line and set up a separate line to supply gas to the consumer at around 3:45pm,’ said Titas Gas director of operations Mohammad Khalid Hasan.
Soon most of the areas, except pocket areas like Salehpur, will get gas supply as usual, he added.
Titas high official said the rescue operation was interrupting their repair works though they had identified the leakage of the pipeline.
He said the Titas team would start the repair work as soon as the rescue operation was over.
