Lubaba Nawar, a student of class eight of Rajuk Uttara Model College, received books worth Tk 1 lakh as she became first in the Oitijya Gollachhut Prothom Alo story-writing competition 2009 arranged for school level students.
Publication organisation Oitijya and daily Prothom Alo organised the competition for the fifth times.
The prize giving ceremony for the competition was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on Saturday.
Eminent artist Mustafa Manwar, popular writer Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, chief of jury board Kaiser Chowdhury, daily Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, Executive Director of Oitijya Arifur Rahman Naeem and actress Jaya Ahsan were present at the function.
Speaking as the chief guest, Mustafa Manwar said a lot of books should be read to develop oneself and there is no alternate of reading books. He said people love to listen stories.
Muhammad Zafar Iqbal said book reading is a must for the blossoming of imagination.
