A mob blocked the Dhaka–Aricha Road in the Rajalak Farm crossing near the Savar bus stand in Dhaka over the death of a man in a road accident at about 11:45am.
The mob, which had blocked the road for an hour, set fire to the bus that caused the accident and vandalised at least 10 vehicles.
At least 20 were injured as the police charged at the people with truncheons. The deceased was Motahar Hossai Bhandary, 38, a resident of Lakshmipur at Singair in Manikganj. He worked with a local hospital in the area.
The police and witnesses said a bus headed for Faridpur from Dhaka had run over Motahar in the morning. He died on the spot.
The local people set the bus on fire. The driver managed to get away.
The mob blocked the road about 12:30pm, causing traffic congestion and suffering to the passengers.
The police went to the place and charged at the protesters with truncheons in which 20 were injured. Traffic became normal about 1:30pm, sources said.
The Savar police officer-in-charge, Mahbubur Rahman, they had taken the bus to the police station and they were trying to arrest the driver.
A case was filed.
