Rakhaing women called upon the people of Myanmar on Friday to boycott the elections set for November 7, called by the military junta.
Failing to stage a demonstration before the Myanmar embassy at Gulshan, they grouped together under the banner of Rakhaing Women’s Union and demonstrated before the Supreme Court in the afternoon.
The police obstructed their procession from proceeding towards the Myanmar embassy in the morning, they said.
Myanmar has been under military rule since 1962.
The military rulers of Myanmar set aside the election results of 1990 to continue in power.
Aung San Suu Kyi led National Democratic Leage had swept the 1990 polls bagging all but four seats in parliament. But she has been under house arrest ever since.
The military junta announced it would hold fresh elections on November 7.
Demanding free and fair polls, Myanmar citizens living in Dhaka took part in the demonstration led by RWU chairperson Saw Mra Raza Linn.
They carried banners and placards in support of their demand for free and fair polls.
