Assault of Cop
Actor Dipjol apologises on remand
Film actor Monwar Hossain Dipjol, also a Dhaka city corporation (DCC) councillor, admitted assaulting an on-duty traffic police constable at gunpoint and apologised for the offences during a one-day remand yesterday, said police.
Dipjol was quizzed by Darussalam police in a case filed by a traffic constable for assaulting and threatening him at gunpoint when he tried to protest the violation of traffic rules by the car of Dipjol on November 6 at Gabtoli in the capital.
Since the incident, the DCC councillor had gone into hiding. But he surrendered to the police on November 28 — after 12 days of hiding.
Darussalam police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Malek told the reporters, “Dipjol admitted the incident and also said sorry for the offences.”
However, sources said Dipjol might be shown arrested in another case as at least a dozen cases filed against him are pending with different courts.
Earlier, Darussalam police on November 21 appealed to the deputy commissioner of Dhaka for cancellation of the licence of Dipjol’s firearms that include a single and a double-barrel shotguns, a pistol, and a rifle.
Dipjol has already been awarded 45 years’ imprisonment in absentia on different charges including possessing illegal firearms and ammunition and acquiring wealth through illegal means.
