The nation will observe Begum Rokeya Day today, marking the 130th birth anniversary and 78th anniversary of the death of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain.
Bangla Academy will hold a commemorative lecture to mark the day. The title of the lecture is ‘thought of feminism and Rokeya’ at academy seminar room in the city.
Prof Sonia Nishat Amin of history department of Dhaka University will deliver the lecture while Bangla Academy Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan give the address of welcome. National Professor Kabir Chowdhury is expected to chair the meeting.
Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain was born on December 9 in 1880 at Pairaband village in Rangpur. She passed away on December 9 in 1932.
