Bangladeshi cargo liner MV Jahan Moni hijacked on December 5 from the sea off the Indian port Cochin anchored at the Somali coast early Saturday, shipping officials said.
According to satellite images gathered MV Jahan Moni anchored at Somali coast at 2 AM on Saturday, said Feroz Alam, an official of S.R. Shipping, which owns the vessel. ‘But we could not as yet establish any contact with the ship or its crew,’ he said.
‘We have not, so far, got any call from the captors either,’ he said.
Armed pirates captured the ship with 26 crew members and the wife of its chief engineer on board, on the afternoon of December 5 as it was going to Greece carrying mineral ore from Indonesia, shipping officials and the owners said.
They captured the ship from the sea about 80 nautical miles west of the Indian port Cochin when all its communication with the shore was snapped, they said.
