A schoolgirl died in hospital after gang rape by classmates at Bangabari of Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Sunday night.
The victim was identified as Nuresha Khatun, daughter of Bairul Islam of Begunbari village. She was a student of class IX at Bangabari Girls High School.
Police arrested Nuresha’s two classmates – Mahbub 15, son of Abdul Wahab and Azim, 15, son of Abdul Wahab Poltu – in this connection.
Police and neighbours said Nuresha had left her house on Sunday afternoon to attend a coaching class at a teacher’s house. On the way, some of her classmates, all of them boys, took her to the house of Azim where Mahbub, Azim, Al Amin and others violated her one after another and left her unconscious.
Neighbours took her to the local health complex where the on-duty doctors declared her dead. The locals also caught Mahbub and Azim and handed them over to the police. But Al Amin managed to flee.
The officer-in-charge of Gomostapur police station, Jahangir Hossain, said that the body, including sex organs, bore marks of injuries. He said the arrested were being interrogated.
The body was sent to Chapainawabganj sadar hospital for autopsy. The victim’s mother, Nasima Begum, filed a murder case with Gomostapur thana on Monday.
