Old DOHS, powered by the first century of the tournament by Mehrab Hossain Jr, recorded their second successive win, this time against Victoria SC by narrow eight runs in the Dhaka Premier League in Rajshahi on Wednesday.
In the other matches of the day, Kalabagan KC eked out a one-wicket win over Gazi Tanks at BKSP while CCS bounced back from their shock first-round defeat to beat newcomers Orient SC by seven wickets in Bogra.
Old DOHS v Victoria SC
After being sent in to bat first, DOHS lost both of their openers for no score before a brilliant century from Mehrab Hossain (128 off 144 balls with 15 fours and one six) steadied the ship. His timely partnership of 148 runs with Farhad Reza (63 off 74 balls) for the seventh wicket lifted their innings to a respectable 249 in 50 overs.
Arsalan Meer and Monir Hossain destroyed the top order of DOHS as they both claimed three wickets for 40 and 41 runs respectively.
After losing a quick wicket Victoria were able to build some good partnerships but were bundled out for 241 runs. Mominul Hoq scored a half-century (70 from 91 balls) and Mohammad Sami’s 48 off 76 balls were not enough to change the fate of the game.
Taskin Ahmed, Farhad Reza and Shafiul Alam picked up two wickets each for DOHS.
Gazi Tanks v Kalabagan
After opting to bat first, an all-round performance from Mahmudul Hasan restricted Gazi to 182 runs. Nasir Hossain was their top scorer with 53 runs off 82 balls and Sabbir Rahman contributed 34.
Arafat Sunny took three crucial wickets, Mohammad Sharif and Mahmudul chipped in with two wickets each.
Kalabagan lost wickets in regular intervals in their chase for 182 runs with the scoreboard reading 61-5 at one stage. A key sixth-wicket partnership of 69 runs between Mahmudul and Ariful Hoq steadied the innings and Kalabagan were able to reach the target before the 50 overs were gone.
CCS v Orient SC
A half-century by opener Robiul Islam (53 off 90 balls) helped Orient score 210 runs after they had elected to bat first. Sadid Hossain and Anhoor Newaz scored 44 and 42 runs respectively.
Aslam Khan bagged three wickets and Mohammad
Ashraful picked up two for CCS.
CCS reached their target convincingly with two half-centuries from Amit Mojumder (82 off 104 balls) and Shubhagata Hom (not out 50 off 49 balls) with four overs to spare. Mohammed Ashraful made an unbeaten 43 off 58 balls to steer his side to victory.
