At least four people have been trampled to death by wild elephants that attacked villages in the hilly Bandarban.
Local administration said the elephants also injured three people including a child as they ravaged some thatched homes of villagers in two separate attacks early on Thursday.
The Naikhyangchari upazila nirbahi officer, Mohammad Shamim Sohel, said a herd of wild elephants ravaged the house of farmer Abul Kashem at Narichabunia under Baishari union at around 3:00am on Thursday.
Kashem’s wife Sajeda Akhter, 45, daughter Noor Akhter, 12 and another daughter Rozina Akhter, 7 were smashed under the feet of elephants and they died on the spot. He said Kashem and his son Lokman Hakim were injured while trying to escape the house which was badly damaged in the attack.
UNO Shohel said in another incident at Cherarkul of the same Upazila at around 5:00am a herd of wild elephants attacked and ravaged the house of one Ali Hossain and trampled his child Osman Hossain, 3.
