Bengal Foundation has released five music albums as a part of its Bangla music promotion programme having the slogan ‘Bajuk Praney Bangla Gaan’.
Classical artiste Ustad Ram Kanai Das, Nazrul singer Shahin Samad, Tagore singers Rezwana Chowdhury Banya and Mita Haq, and Bengal Foundation chairman Abul Khair Litu jointly unveiled the music CDs at a launching ceremony held on Wednesday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city.
The titles of the albums are ‘Adhunik Bangla Gaan’, ‘Lokogaan’, ‘Tin Kabir Gaan’, ‘Nazruler Gaan’, and ‘Rabindranather Gaan’. As many as 30 promising singers selected through ‘Bengal Bikash’, a talent hunt run by the foundation, have lent their voice to the songs published in the CDs.
The formal launching of the albums was followed by 16 of the new-found musical talents each rendering live one of his/her songs included in the albums.
The function wrapped up with the screening of a documentary made on the 15-month talent hunt and the album publication.
Maruf Hasan, Halima Parvin, Safiul Alam Raja, Shila Das, Biman Chandra Biswas, and Arifur Rahman sang the 12 folk songs published in the CD ‘Lokogaan’, while the album titled ‘Tin Kabir Gaan’ comprises songs of Dwijendralal Roy, Rajanikanta Sen, and Atul Prasad Sen, three of the most prominent poets, lyricists, and composers of the 19th century.
A collection of modern Bangla songs like ‘Kon dur swapnaloke’, ‘Kichu kabita kichu gaan’, and ‘Akasher rong diye’ are published in the album ‘Adhunik Bangla Gaan’.
Durbadal Chattopadhyay of India was the music director and Pulak Barua the recordist of the albums, and Kamol Khalid was in charge of the overall coordination of the music publication programme.
