Batsman ruled the roost as three centuries were scored in the fourth round of the Dhaka Premier League on Monday with Gazi Tank Cricketers shocking reigning runners-up Bangladesh Biman by five wickets.
Shahriar Nafees inspired Gazi to this startling win with an unbeaten 114 in Rajshahi while Rony Talukder hammered 154 runs to lead Abahani to a 98-run win over Old DOHS at the BKSP.
The biggest entertainment of the day perhaps came from the bat of Tamim Iqbal, who chasing target of little over 200 runs plundered 135 off 88 balls, steering Mohammedan to an easy eight-wicket win over BKSP in Bogra.
Gazi Tanks v Bangladesh Biman
Musfiqur Rahim smashed his fourth half-century in four matches, but unlike the previous three matches his 80 off 116 balls went in vain with Shahriar outscoring him with his first century.
Sent in to bat first, Biman rode on Mushfique to compile a challenging 241 runs before they were all out in 48.5 overs. Batting at number 10 paceman Shafiul Islam contributed hugely to the innings with 50 off 26 balls clubbing six fours and three sixes.
Gazi raced to 244-5 with five balls in hand as Shahriar was unbeaten on 114 facing 136 balls. He was ably aided by skipper Naeem Islam, who contributed 52 from 96 balls to their 137-run fourth-wicket stand.
Mohammedan v BKSP
Middle-order batsman Jupiter Ghosh made 83 off 113 balls to help BKSP compile 201 runs in 49.5 overs, but the academy side were no match for defending champions, who raced to 204-2 in 31.2 overs.
Tamim led the way
for Mohammedan with his stupendous innings that featured 19 fours and four sixes. Sakib al Hasan, who had earlier claimed three BKSP wickets and executed a run-out, was unbeaten on 37.
Abahani v Old DOHS
On his way to a massive century, right-handed opening batsman Rony Talukder added 184 runs with Australian Lee Carseldine (65 off 92 balls) as Abahani ended their stipulated 50 overs at 283-4.
Tapash Baishya, Abul Hasan, Saqlain Sajib and Farhad Hossain each grabbed four wickets as DOHS were all out for 185 runs to hand Abahani their fourth consecutive win, which also gave them a solo lead in the points table.
