Bandarban, Dec 29: An under-construction church in Bandarban town has collapsed, killing at least one worker and injuring 26 others. The deceased was identified as Selim Khan, 40, of Wapda Bridge area in the district town.
Deputy commissioner Mizanur Rahman said the third floor roof of the three-storey ‘Rani Church’ at Jadipara collapsed at about 1pm during its extension work, causing the casualty.
Fire fighters and army personnel rushed to the spot and began the rescue drive, which was going on till filing of this report. The injured workers were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
A four-member committee, headed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ishrat Zaman, has been formed to probe the incident.
Selim’s body was kept in Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue.
