Three people including a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw in the city yesterday.
The dead were identified as Alimuddin, from Ghoramara village of Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet and a student of English department of SUST, Tajul Islam, 35, of Dakshin Surma and Sukanta Sarker, 30.
The accident occurred when the five in an auto-rickshaw were heading towards the city from Gowainghat upazila and a speeding truck from the opposite direction hit the vehicle around 5:30pm on the Airport Road in Luckatoora Tea Garden area, locals said. The accident left all of them critically injured.
They were immediately taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Three of them succumbed to their injuries around 10:00pm, said Officer-in-Charge Khondaker Naoroj Ahmed of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station.
The remaining two are undergoing treatment at the hospital. They are
Obaidur Rahman, 50, of Dakshin Surma and Shaokat Ali, of Ghoramara village.
