A Rajshahi University theatre and music department part-time teacher on Wednesday was dismissed from his job on charges of sexual harassment of a student.
RU academic council on Tuesday at a meeting took the decision after examining the complaints brought against him few days earlier by more than forty female students of the department.
RU vice-chancellor M Abdus Sobhan cancelled the accused teacher’s appointment on Wednesday, said the department chairman Malay Kumar Bhoumick.
He also said the convicted teacher, Amitabh Chatarjee, was appointed as a part-timer to the department by the VC on his sole decision.
As the complaints filed against him were found true, he was dismissed from his charges and he was no more a teacher of the department from Wednesday, he added.
Earlier, a theatre and music department female student, along with 43 female students, filed a complaint of harassment against Amitabh Chatarjee with the vice-chancellor on Monday.
The student’s father, in a memorandum to VC, expressed his concern for her daughter’s safety on the campus on the same day.
