BNP Secretary General Khandker Delwar Hossain yesterday demanded of the government to reinforce the special security for the party Chairperson Begum Khaldea Zia.
He said the life of party chairperson is now ‘insecure’ following the withdrawal of security provided by the special security force (SSF) from the first day of this month.
“We have sent an application to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on January 21for the continuation of SSF security to Khaleda Zia. The Government seems to be very much reluctant in this regard,” he told the journalists at press briefing at the party chairperson’s office at Gulhsan in the city.
He said militancy and other terrorists’ activities got a spurt across the country soon after the assumption of power by the government.
He also said under the present national and international trends of terrorism the present security for Begum Zia as an opposition leader is not sufficient.
Referring to the government’s decision to continue special security for former Chief Adviser Dr Fakruddin Ahmed the secretary general of BNP said Khaleda Zia should get it as a former Prime Minster of the country.
Dr Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, Standing Committee member and other senior leaders of the party, among others, were present.
