Zoom Laptop Fair kicks off
Country has a lot to achieve in ICT: Faruk Khan

To create awareness among selective groups of target customers like corporate personnel, business people, university students and to provide different brands of laptop to potential buyers under one shed, a three day “Zoom Laptop Fair” began at Ban-gladesh-China Frien-dship Conference Centre in Dhaka on Wednesday.
A total of 10 pavilion and 6 stalls of different companies of brand laptops are participating in the fair inaugurated by Commerce Minister Lt Col Mohammad Faruk Khan (rtd).
“The country has a lot to achieve specially in the information technology sector. In this fair we will go one step ahead to the “Digital Bangladesh” which was our electoral manifesto,” Faruk Khan said, adding that “To make Digital Bangladesh we will provide computer education for all the students in secondary level by 2013 and primary level by 2021.”
The Commerce Minister said the youth are now switching over from desktop computers to laptop and they are showing interest in stylish laptops at reasonable price.
“With around 5,000 laptop sales taking place every month, the current growth rate of laptop users in the country is around 8 to 10 per cent and day by day the users of laptop is increasing,” Muhammad Khan, the strategic planner of the Maker Communication, also organiser of the fair said.
He said more than 600 laptops were sold at the last year’s fair, the first of its kind, in the country. “Last year’s show received an overwhelming response. Hopefully sales will increase this year,” he said.
Apart from different brand laptops, hardware of laptop, desktop and other computer related products are also available at the fair. Intel is offering gifts with all of its products while other participants are offering discount on the prices of laptops of different brands like Acer, Asus, HP, Intel, Toshiba, Dell, Fujitshu, Gigabite, Hassy, Kings and Daffodil.
Computer and accessories manufacturers HP, Compaq, Dell, Fujitsu, Hasee, Gigabyte, Asus, Lenovo, Toshiba, Acer, Great Wall, BenQ and Apple are participating in the fair with their brand laptops at ‘attractive prices.’
Customers at the fair will get special offers of Zoom at the Citycell pavilion by showing the proof of purchase of any laptop from the fair. Citycell is the title sponsor of the fair while Acer, Asus, Hasee and Toshiba are the co-sponsors. Intel is the technology sponsor. Radio Foorti is the media and bdjobs.com the online partner.
The fair is open to all from 10:00am to 9:00pm. The fair drew a good crowd on the first day.The entry fee is Tk 20, but entry is free for students. Maker Communication, an IT-based Event Management Company in coordination with Mobile operator Citycell and a number of computer manufacturers organised the Fair.
Among others, State Minis-ter for Law, Justice and Par-liamentary Affairs Advo-cate Md Kamrul Islam, CEO of Cetycell Michael Seymour, President of Bangladesh Co-mputer Association (BSA) Mostafa Jabbar were present at the function.
