A daylong annual bird fair will be held on the Zahir Raihan Auditorium premises of Jahangirnagar University on Friday.
The department of zoology, the Wildlife Rescue Centre, Arannayk and the Bangladesh Bird Club are jointly organising the fair to raise awareness of safety for birds and maintenance of bio-diversity.
This was stated at a press conference at Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association office on Wednesday.
Organisers of the press conference said a small number of migratory birds arrived at the JU lakes and the Dhaka sky this year.
The daylong programmes include inter-university bird identification competition, decoration of stalls, speech competition, bird painting competition for children, lectures on bird, watching migratory birds by telescope at different spots, discussion and cultural session relating to bird at the end of day.
With the presence of guest birds, the JU campus has turned into a tiny tourist spot attracting a large number of visitors as well as nature lovers who throng here daily.
Telescopes and binoculars would be set up at different spots of the campus to facilitate the
visitors to identify and learn about various species of birds during the fair.
Display of pet birds is the prime attraction of the bird fair.
