A Rapid Action Battalion mobile court yesterday busted a printing press producing fake tickets of World Cup cricket and arrested four persons in this connection at Nanda Kumar Datta road in the capital’s Chawkbazar area.
The court sentenced the press owner Goyanath Mazumder, 52, to two-year imprisonment and also fined him Tk one lakh.
The other arrestees, the employees of the printing press Sumon Biswas, 30, Sumon Mandal, 30, and Kashinath Majumder, 30, were fined Tk one lakh each.
The court also seized a computer, a scanner, a printer and a cutting machine and sealed the “Saikot Computers and Saikot Press” at Nandokumar Datt Road.
According to Rab Executive Magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha, who led the mobile court, the press had been involved in making duplicate tickets of various events including concerts and games for many days.
He said, on basis of a tip off, the court made the three hours drive from 3:00pm.
The frauds were preparing to duplicate tickets by copying design from a real ticket with computer and the fake tickets they were making contained same number and bar code, the magistrate said.
He said that the arrestees had not printed any hard copy but were preparing to do that.
Answering a question, Anwar Pasha said that bar code reader machines would identify the fake tickets if anyone tried to enter the stadium showing those and the buyers would be responsible in that case.
