When Sakib al Hasan was asked at the press conference of all captains if he expects Bangladesh to beat India in their opening match, Mahendra Singh Dhoni spurred him on from back and asked him to tell the press that he also wants to win the World Cup.
But it did not go well with a section of the local media, who thought that the Indian skipper was just mocking Sakib to make him psychologically down before their opening clash.
But anyone who knows Dhoni well also knew it was not any mocking and rather a witty banter, which is not very unbecoming of Dhoni.
The Indian skipper also demonstrated his sense of humour in the pre-match press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium which amused the members of the media on Friday.
Asked if he was feeling any pressure after winning the two warm-up matches, Dhoni left everyone laughing when he said in Hindi ‘Jitne me bhi pressure, harne me bhi pressure, keya karu yaar?’ (It brings extra pressure if we win, it also creates pressure if we lose. What shall I do my friend?).
He was in a light mood when replying to a question on whether he feels the pressure of facing the host nation in the opening match, saying: ‘Bhai, bring a pressure machine so that I can measure my blood pressure and satisfy you.’
Dhoni gave another anecdote when he was asked if the absence of Mashrafee bin Murtaza, man of the match in Bangladesh’s two previous wins against India, would help them.
‘He is not becoming the man of the match on this occasion that’s for sure,’ quipped Dhoni.
