The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) personnel do not torture anybody to extract information rather emphasised on collecting hard evidence during inquiry and investigation. The Commission spokesman Col Hanif Iqbal said yesterday.
“The ACC has neither scope nor infrastructure to torture anybody,” Hanif Iqbal, also the ACC Director General (admin), told at ACC’s regular briefing as a reporter sought comments on the allegations of torture brought by some important persons who recently disclosed that the Commission personnel
tortured them when they were in custody in graft cases filed by the ACC during the caretaker government.
“Interrogation is insignificant for the cases filed under sections 26 and 27 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004. The accused could be heard, but it is not mandatory,” he said.
In replying to a question that who is to be accused if anyone is tortured after arrest in an ACC case, Hanif said it’s not possible to answer (to this question) specifically.
Asked he said the Commission would investigate any specific torture-allegation brought against its personnel.
Replying to another query, he said after joining the Commission, the officials and employees have to submit their wealth statements to the chairman and those are verified.
