Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan’s Worcestershire and vice captain Tamim Iqbal’s Nottinghamshire will lock horn in their much awaited match today in the Friends LifeT20 tournament at the Pears’ home ground New Road.
While Bangladesh vice captain Tamim Iqbal influenced Notts’ superb victory by five wickets over Yorkshire with a blistering 47 off 37 balls which included five boundaries and two over boundaries, Bangladesh skipper Shakib failed to make a headway in Worcestershire’s defeat by 28 runs. Shakib got out for none and was costly with his four overs giving away 35 runs for a wicket.
However, today’s match not only holds importance in the county as well as in terms of Bangladesh cricket. Today Bangladesh will witness two of their national team players clash in English county cricket for the first time.
Shakib has well established himself in the county since making his debut last season while Tamim is still new in the arena. Much will depend on Tamim’s performance as he is yet to earn a full season contract. Another match winning performance will add to his credentials.
With nine wins out of 12 matches, Nottinghamshire is already on the front foot leading the table and on their way to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Worcestershire are holding the fourth position in the table with five wins out of 13 matches.
