BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain on Wednesday alleged that in absence of the main opposition party from the parliament, the government is trying to humiliate BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and her family.
On February 16, Awami League law maker Meher Afroz Chumki from Gazipur- 5 wanted to know from the finance minister AMA Muhith through a star marked question no 412 about how much money were seized by the regime of caretaker government in connection with corruption and irregularities. As a complementary question she asked how much money were seized from Koko’s bank account in Singapore and whether the money will be returned to Bangladesh after disposal of the case.
Delwar alleged that the star marked question and complementary question were different. “The speaker ought to expunge it immediately as it was violation of the rules and procedure of the parliament. The government had done it intentionally and he (Speaker) did not do his work impartially,” Delwar added.
Delwar said that the BNP is anxious about the future of the parliamentary democracy. “We do not expect an ineffective parliament. But it is true that the parliament is ineffective without BNP,” he added.
Replying to a query whether BNP will go to the parliament, he said, “The government is humiliating BNP chairperson and her family violating rules and procedure in parliament and our leaders and activists are killed by the AL terrorists across the country. Besides, seat arrangement problem is yet to be resolved. We will go to the parliament if the government resolves the above problems.”
He said the people of the country are very disappointed with the government for the parliament ineffective. “The government attempts to bring BNP back to parliament are worthless because they do not do what they say,” he alleged.
A political governments’ responsibility is to ensure security of the opposition leader. “But the government has tried to throw her life into risk intentionally. The results of such an attitude is not pleasing,” he said.
