A local company recently launched two cargo ships built at the cost of Tk 8 crore at a dockyard in Barisal for plying on river and coastal routes.
The ships were built at the shipyard of Sundarban Navigation Company at Beltala on the bank of Kirtankhola River.
Agrani Bank financed for the construction of the vessels.
Sundarban Navigation Company managing director Saidur Rahman Rintu, also the president of Barisal Chamber of Commence and Industry, said the cargo ships named Sundarban- 1 and Sundarban-3 built using local manpower, resources and technologies maintaining international standards.
Sundarban-3 can carry 2,600 tonnes cargo and Sundarban-1 can carry 1,600 tonnes cargo, said Saidur Rahman.
Barisal City Corporation mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron attended the programme as chief guest in the ship-floating ceremony held on the bank of Kirtankhola River recently.
