Siddikur Rahman improved on his overnight position of tied for 6th to move up a place on the leaderboard at the end of the third round of the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters in Malaysia on Friday.
Siddik, the pre-tournament favourite, began the day promisingly with a birdie on the opening hole of a sun-baked Kota Permai Golf & Country Club in Shah Alam.
However, his slim chances of catching the leaders were not aided by a bogey on the 5th hole but the top ranked golfer at the $400,000 Asian Tour event rallied to birdie the final hole and cap off another steady round with a score of two under par 70.
The Bangladeshi golfer’s tally of eight under par 208 helped him tie for 5th place with four other golfers, five strokes behind Thailand’s rising star Panuphol Pittayarat.
Panuphol, 18, carded an impressive five-under-par 67 to take a two shot lead from 2007 Selangor Masters champion Antonio Lascuna of the Philippines, who surged into contention with a flawless round of 66.
