At least 18 people were killed and 30 others in injured in a road accident at Noimile in Shajahanpur Upazila of Bogra district on Thursday morning.
According to Shajahanpur police, the accident took place at 5:45 am when a Joypurhat bound bus named “Zaker Enterprise” from Dhaka collided with a truck coming from opposite direction leaving 12 people dead on the spot and 30 others injured.
Police said 12 people, including eight women and children, were killed on the spot while six others died from their wounds at Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical Collage Hospital one hour after their admission. Among the 18 deceased only eight people were identified as Nupur, 35 wife of AliMahabbat of Khetlal of Joypurhat district, Dulari Khatun, 24 wife of Istiaque Ahmed and her daughter Nadira Parvin, 5 of Chotto Chatra, Chalkbazar, Dhaka, Abdul Khalequl, 60 son of late Rahim Uddin of Shatsimalia, Bogra Sadar, Rezaul Alam 38, son of Shamsusuddin of Rokandipur in Khetlal Upazila of Joypurhat, Lilafa Yasmin, 28, wife of Abdur Razzak of Toppara of Hakimpur, Dinajpur, Jahidul Islam, 30, son of Abul Hossian of Malahar of Shibganj of Bogra, Abul Kasem, 32, son of Moharat Ali, Shamtajina, Panchibibi of Joypurhat. Sub-Inspector of Bogra Sadar Thana Rokshna said to the correspondent that the other 10 deceased remained unidentified because of their guardians. The Officer-in-Charge of Shajahanpur police station, Anisur Rahman said that a case was filed in this connection.
Soon after the accident, the local people took to the street and put barricade on the highway.
Later police, members of Rapid Action Battalion and army personnel rushed to the scene and failed to bring the situation under control. Later the police high officials assured the local people to setting up speed breaker on the scene and the agitated people withdrew the blockade after two hours. The army personnel removed the damaged bus from the highway with their crane.
Our Gazipur Correspondent reports, at least four people were killed and 15 others injured in a head on collision between a passenger bus and a truck at Kaliakoir upazila on Dhaka-Taingail Highway Thursday morning.
Police said the incident took place at around 5:30am at Kaliakoir bypass road of Kharajora area.
The officer-in-charge of Gorai Highway police Sanowar Hossain said police managed to seize the bus but its driver fled.
