Model-actress Shashi is busy shooting a heap of TV plays. She is also a familiar face on the silver screen. During a recent chat with The Daily Star, the talented actress gave a glimpse into her world:
“I’m currently shooting for the film ‘Shoa Chan Pakhi”, co-starring Anisur Rahman. After a short break the shooting has resumed in full steam,” she asserts, adding, “I’m also shooting for the film ‘Brishtir Diney’ with Apurbo.”
According to Shashi, she is more into TV plays than other mediums. Currently she is doing quite a few TV serials and some single-episode plays as well.
Shashi plays a key role in the daily soap “Gulshan Avenue” — aired on Banglavision. She also enacts a part in “Director” as well as other TV plays like “Rosha Mia”.
Shashi stepped into the media by securing the first position from Rajshahi zone at the ‘Lux Anandadhara Miss Photogenic’ competition in 2003. Shelving early plans to be a dancer, she stepped into the acting medium with “camera”, “action” and “monitor” as constants.
“Luck struck when I played the role of Tuni in the much-acclaimed film ‘Hajar Bochhor Dhorey’, written by famous iconic director and litterateur Zahir Raihan. The film was directed by Kohinur Akhtar Suchanda. I came to be known as Tuni from then on,” adds Shashi with pride.
Shashi did a film on Bir Sreshtha Matiur Rahman, titled “Ostitwe Amar Desh”, co-directed by Mili Rahman and Khijir Hayat.
Shashi however admits gaining popularity through Salahuddin Lavlu’s TV play “Ghor Kutum” where she played the role of a village belle named Gawhor. “It was a turning point for me,” says Shashi. Among other TV plays that brought her into the limelight are: “Shanto Kutir”, “Purnota”, “Pichhutaan”, “Phuldani”, “Mesbari” and “Ondhokar Amar Bhalo Lagey.”
