Mishuk’s burial today
Surgeons have fixed the fractured jaw and realigned the displaced teeth of Dhali Al Mamun, one of the survivors of Saturday’s car crash that killed five including Tareque Masud and Ashfaque Munier Mishuk.
The complicated surgery was performed Sunday night at the city’s Square Hospital, Mamun’s family members said.
However, the artist has bigger things to worry about as 11 of his ribcage bones were broken from the impact of the accident.
The doctors have said two of the bones have damaged his lungs, but the severity of the injury is not known, said Mamun’s sister-in-law Anwara Begum Dolly.
Mamun might be taken abroad for intensive treatment, she added.
Meanwhile, Saidul Islam, another survivor, went through a hand surgery yesterday.
Doctors operated on his hand’s fractured finger bones, parts of which were grinded in the accident.
“We have fixed it and inserted a screw in place of the bone,” said Dr Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, an orthopedics surgeon at Square Hospital, who performed the surgery.
“There would not be any permanent damage save some isolated pains and problems while writing,” he said.
Saidul could be released from the hospital by tomorrow, he added.
Saidul and Mamun were among the four who survived the fatal road crash on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj on Saturday.
The other two survivors Catherine Masud, Tareque’s wife, and Dilara Zaman Jolly, Mamun’s wife, were released from the hospital Sunday morning.
The four received some primary treatment at Manikganj Sadar Hospital before being taken to Square Hospital on Saturday.
“We saw blood coming out of Tareque’s mouth,” said Dilara sharing the harrowing experience at the hospital.
“I cannot remember how we got out of the car,” she added.
She recalled stopping a passenger bus on the road that dropped them off in front of the Manikganj Sadar Hospital. They asked a medical student there to help.
Sanwar Islam, an assistant medical officer there, said, on arriving, Catherine requested them to take a look at a severely injured Mamun.
“He received three stitches on his cheek. We also gave him some painkillers to help with the pain and a saline,” said Sanwar.
Afterwards, Catherine rushed back to the accident spot with an ambulance.
The rest of the survivors, accompanied by Sanwar, took another ambulance to reach Dhaka’s Square Hospital around 5:30pm, Sanwar told The Daily Star.
MISHUK’S BURIAL TODAY
Noted media personality Ashfaque Munier Mishuk will be buried in the city’s Banani graveyard at 1:00pm today.
Meanwhile, the body of Tareque Masud, an internationally respected filmmaker, remains at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University mortuary.
Tarerque’s mother-in-law Alfreda Shapere and brother-in-law Alfred Shapere had arrived in Dhaka yesterday.
