Painter Dhali Al Mamun, who was injured in a fatal road crash on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj last Saturday, was yesterday flown to Thailand for better treatment.
He was admitted to Bangkok General Hospital last night. An air ambulance left with the painter from Dhaka around 3:30pm, said Mamun’s relative Syed Iftekhar.
Prior to his shifting, Mamun was kept on life support in the intensive care unit of the city’s Square Hospital Ltd.
The painter, also a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts in Chittagong University, was accompanied to Thailand by his wife Dilara Zaman Jolly and close friend Shahaduzzaman, who is a physician.
“Mamun is still in danger. The Bangkok hospital will initially try to stop any further complicacies that may deteriorate his condition,” said Iftekhar.
Mamun is among the four survivors of the road accident that killed five people including internationally renowned filmmaker Tareque Masud and eminent media personality Ashfaque Munier Mishuk.
He sustained injuries in the chest and shoulder.
Many cultural activists including Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu and Shahidul Alam were yesterday present at the Square Hospital to see him off.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina donated Tk 10 lakh for Mamun’s treatment. A private company also extended financial assistance for his medical care.
