A ferry of Mawa-Kawrakandi route was rescued 17 hours after it ran aground in Padma with 24 vehicles carrying over 1,000 homebound people.
Ro-Ro ferry Khan Jahan Ali got stuck at Kauliar Char in alternate channel Kobutor Khola around 9:00pm Tuesday, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Sirajul Haque, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) in Mawa, said salvage vessel managed to rescue the ferry around 2:00pm Wednesday after water level of the river increased.
Khan Jahan Ali got stuck in an underwater shoal for the second time in three days. It was salvaged Monday evening, 10 hours after it ran around on Sunday.
Another ferry of the same route ‘Ramsri’, which was stuck with 24 vehicles at Kuliar Char on Sunday, is yet to be rescued till Wednesday afternoon, causing untold sufferings to its passengers
