BCB names teams for Challenge Cup
The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Wednesday named the national squad for the upcoming
Challenge Cup one-day without appointing a captain.
Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, widely viewed as the frontrunner to succeed Sakib al Hasan as Tigers’ captain, is expected to lead the side in the tournament that will also feature the Bangladesh A and GP-BCB National Academy teams.
Mushfique’s chances of securing the captaincy were boosted further when his main challenger for the post, all-rounder Mahmudullah, was demoted to the A team in an apparent bid to monitor his leadership skills.
Mahmudullah’s demotion enabled Mohammad Ashraful to retain his place in the national side despite a run of abject performances in the ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Batsman Alok Kapali was also included in the national side while Junaed Siddique was demoted to the A team.
The Challenge Cup begins on September 12 with the national team facing GP-BCB Academy side in the opening match.
