Monipur High School in the capital’s Mirpur has emerged as the best school in the country in this year’s primary terminal examinations.
Seventeen among the top 20 schools are from Dhaka. The rest are from Comilla, Chittagong and Khulna which secured seventh, 14th and 18th positions.
Monipur High School achieved cent percent pass rate in the examinations taken by Grade-V students. Seventy four per cent students of the school got GPA 5.
The five other schools of Dhaka that follow Monipur High School are Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Motijheel branch of Ideal School and College, Milestone Preparatory KG School, Gulshan branch of Ideal School and College, and National Ideal School, Motijheel.
Comilla Modern Primary School secured the seventh position. Of its 761 candidates, 315 secured GPA 5.
AK Higher Secondary School, Mohammadpur Preparatory School, Shamsul Haq Khan School and College, Mirpur Bangla Higher Secondary School, Motijheel Model High School and College, and Banani Bidyaniketan secured positions from eighth to 13th.
Bangladesh Navy School and College in Chittagong held the 14th place while Govt Laboratory High School, Ideal Govt Primary School and Uttara High School the subsequent spots.
The top 20 list has Khulna Zila School, Faizur Rahman Ideal Institution, and Shaheed Police Smriti School and College in the 18th, 19th and 20th positions.
The rankings were based on the number of registered students, number of GPA 5s, pass rate, and percentage of absence.
“It is an output of good teamwork. Everyone has discharged his/her due responsibilities,” Farhad Hossain, principal of Monipur High School, told The Daily Star.
Continuous study and supervision are the main reasons behind such results of the school, he said adding, special classes, monthly tests, class tests, and model tests helped the students attain such results.
Manju Ara Begum, acting principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, gave credit to combined efforts by the teachers, students and guardians.
“We identify the weaknesses in particular students and take extra care to help them overcome their lacking,” she told The Daily Star.
Siddiqur Rahman, principal of Comilla Modern Primary School, attributed his school’s success to the dedication of experienced teachers, parents’ awareness, and students’ efforts. “Since we weren’t on the top schools’ list last year, everyone tried their best to do better this time around.”
Saying that mediocre students usually take admission to the school, Principal Mir Golam Sabur of Bangladesh Navy School and College in Chittagong termed his institution’s success a “great achievement.”
“If the teachers closely monitor the students, they would surely get good results at the end of the day,” mentioned the head of the school. It gets 80 per cent student from the Navy men.
