Bangladesh is keen to play a series against South Africa in May at home or away and has taken necessary initiatives to arrange the series, Bangladesh Cricket Board
president AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters on Saturday.
The BCB has drafted a letter to South Africa, according to Kamal, with a proposal for a series consisting three one-day internationals and five Twenty20 games either
at home or away.
The BCB president said the proposal is an outcome of his recent conversation with his South African counterpart Willie Basson on sideline of the International Cricket
Council meeting in Dubai last week
At the ICC board meeting AHM Mustafa Kamal had discussed about a possible series with the South African board president and after he assured Kamal of a positive
outcome, he had instructed the BCB to send them a proposal.
‘He [Willie] assured me of a positive response and accordingly we are sending this letter to Cricket South Africa,’ Kamal told reporters at Mirpur.
‘We have mentioned in the letter that we want to make a visit in the first week of May or else they come over in mid-May to play a series that will have three
one-day internationals and five Twenty20 matches,’ said Kamal.
‘We will bear all the expenses if they visit us while we will also bear all our cost if we go over there,’ said Kamal
South Africa have no international commitments until July when they will tour England for three Tests, five ODIs and three Twenty20 internationals.
Bangladesh, who declined to tour Pakistan in April for security fears, also have no international commitment before ICC World T20 in September after Zimbabwe had
declined to host them in August on the pretext of under-prepared grounds.
The BCB is trying to arrange a series against Ireland in July, but that is deemed to be inadequate.
With the Twenty20 World Cup nearing, the BCB proposed to Ireland for three T20 matches, but it is yet to get any positive response.
It was also learnt that the planned tour of Ireland might get shelved as the Irish authorities did not show enough enthusiasm to bear all the expenses of the Tigers
while touring their country.
