Higher pass rate, more GPA 5 scorers
Results of the Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations this year reflected a significant improvement on all indicators compared to the results of the past years.
The pass percentage, the number of highest grade scorers and the number of institutions where all the students passed have increased this year, according to the results published on Monday.
The total number of GPA 5 scorers this year is 82,212,
up by 5,463 than the figure of the last year.
The combined pass rate this year is 86.37 per cent, which is a 4.06 percentage point increase on the figure of last year. The combined pass rate in 2011 was 82.31 per cent.
This year there are 3,377 institutions where all the students came out successful. The number of such institution last year was 2,017.
A total of 14,12,379 examinees —732,169 male and 680,210 female — from 26,658 educational institutions took the examinations at 2464 centres. Of them, 12,19,894 students passed the examinations.
The SSC and equivalent examinations were held from February 1 to March 4.
The education minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, announced the results at the secretariat at 1:00pm.
Earlier in the morning, the minister handed over the results of all the boards to prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
After the official announcement, results were also made available at schools, on the Dhaka education board website at www.educationboardresults.gov.bd and through text messages over mobile telephones.
Students crowded their schools since morning while guardians tried to collect the results as early as possible through the website and mobile phone.
Nahid said the improved results were possible because of the effective steps taken by the education ministry and hard work of the students and teachers.
Male students have done well this year than the female students both in terms of pass percentage and number of GPA 5 scorers.
The pass rate among male students was 87.27 per cent and 85.41 per cent among female.
A total of 48,915 male students got GPA 5 while 33,297 female students got GPA 5.
As in previous years, Madrasa students have done well than the general students and the vocational students in terms of the pass percentage.
The pass rate in the Madrasa Education Board was 88.47 per cent, which is a 5.34 per cent increase on the figure of last year. A total of 13,436 students scored GPA 5 in the Madrasa Education Board, which is up by 680 against the figure of last year.
A total of 91,170 students took the exams under the Technical Education Board. Of them, 73,566 students came out successful with a pass rate of 80.69 per cent. A total of 3,524 students scored GPA 5 under the board.
A total of 10,48,144 students took the exams under the eight general education boards. Of them, 9,04,756 passed the exams which accounts for a pass rate of 86.32 per cent. A total of 65,252 students scored GPA 5 under the general education boards.
The pass rate under Sylhet Education Board was 91.78 per cent, which was the highest among the general education boards. The lowest pass rate was 78.96 per cent under Chittagong board.
The pass rate was 85.95 per cent under Dhaka board, 88.33 per cent under Rajshahi board, 85.64 per cent in the Comilla board, 87.16 per cent in Jessore board, 86.96 per cent in Barisal board and 87.16 in Dinajpur board.
The number of GPA 5 scorers in the eight general education boards was 65,252. As in the previous year, the number of GPA 5 scorers was the highest in Dhaka board.
A total of 25,629 students scored GPA 5 in Dhaka board, 10,726 in Rajshahi board, 5,179 in Comilla board, 5,825 in Jessore board, 5,121 in Chittagong board, 2,730 in Barisal board, 2,611 in Sylhet board and 7,431 in Dinajpur board.
A total of 265 students took the examination at seven overseas centres. Of them, 261 students came out successful with 98.49 per cent pass rate while 94 of them got GPA 5.
No students passed from 14 educational institutions. The number of such institutions was 38 last year.
