Bangladesh all-rounder Sakib al Hasan is basking in the glory after he helped Kolkata Knight Riders win their maiden title in the Indian Premier League. Sakib spoke to Banglanews24.com, a Bangladeshi news portal, on Monday on his journey in the IPL. Here are the excerpts:
Q: Congratulations for achieving the success?
Sakib: I am also very grateful to you all for giving your support to Kolkata Knight Riders.
Q: How was the celebration at night?
Sakib: Everyone celebrated in their own way especially the foreign cricketers had a blast. I don’t participate in a lot of things and stay away from certain things. But I celebrated the win in my own way.
Q: How did it feel when they lifted you on their shoulders after the game?
Sakib: I don’t think I had done anything special. I just tried to fulfil my responsibility. After the match they got me up on their shoulders and it really felt good.
Q: How was the celebration of Shah Rukh Khan?
Sakib; Sharukh was very happy. After five years his team had finally achieved what he had been dreaming of, so naturally he was enjoying every moment of it.
Q: Did he congratulate you?
Sakib; He treats every player the same way. The player who plays and performs gets the same kind of treatment like the one who doesn’t play. He congratulated everyone.
Q: Do you regret not playing more matches?
Sakib; I will always regret for the matches that I couldn’t play. But being part of a champion team is something special. I tried to give my best whenever I got the chance.
Q: How does it feel to have such a large fan following in Kolkata?
Sakib; There are a lot of fan following for me in Kolkata and it feels really good. I heard that when I was not playing many they were demanding for my inclusion. After returning to Kolkata I am receiving a lot of phone calls and even gave interview to a lot of journalists. It is a pride to be a Bangladeshi cricketer.
Q: Do you feel lucky to be a part of a champion team in just the second year of your participation?
Sakib: Luck is always needed to achieve something. It’s another feather in my cup to be a part of the champion team in the Indian Premier League. But I have to play well in the upcoming matches as I feel maximum pride in playing for my country.
Q: Did they offer you any contract for the next year?
Sakib: Till now they haven’t talked with me about this but I am not worried about it. It can be sorted out later and the auction takes place every year so there is no hurry.
