Anwara shrine robbery case
Police on Thursday submitted a charge sheet of the Anwara Talsara Darber Robbery case accusing seven officials of the RAB-7 including its former chief Lt Colonel Zulfikar Ali Majumder. Officer in-charge (Investigation) of the Anwara Police Station Abdus Salam submitted the charge sheet to the court of chief judicial magistrate in Chittagong on Thursday afternoon.
The other accused of the case are Flight Lieutenant Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan, DAD Abul Bashar, Sub-Inspector Tarun Barua and RAB informers Didarul Alam, Manab Barua and Anwar Miah.
The 12-page charge sheet acquitted six of the accused of the case where a total of 42 witnesses gave their statements.
OC Abdus Salam confirmed the submission of the charge sheet to the court and said the accused are charged under Section 395 and 397 of Penal Code.
A team of RAB-7 led by its chief commanding officer Lt Colonel Zulfikar Ali Majumder got into the Talsara Darbar Complex in Anwara upazila at the mid night on November 3 last and looted Tk 20,007,000 from the safe complex.
The team also arrested four persons from the Darbar complex alleging that they were Rohingya intruders.
On March 14 last, a robbery case was filed against 12 persons including former chief of the RAB-7 along with nine other RAB members and two sources on Tuesday for looting the amount of taka from a shrine named Talsara Darbar in Anwara upazila in Chittagong.
Mohammad Ibrahim, driver of the shrine, filed the case with the Anwara police station after getting a nod from the investigation committee formed by the RAB to try the case under existing criminal procedure.
An investigation committee formed by the RAB headquarters has found involvement of the alleged RAB-7 members in the looting incident and the headquarters has already taken divisional action against the alleged members.
Chief of the RAB-7 Lt Colonel Zulfikar Ali Mojumdar was closed from RAB and sent to his mother force Army. Later the alleged Army personnel went fugitive after being dismissed from the defence forces.
Police finally managed to arrest the alleged dismissed army official and submit him to the court.
The court has recently granted him bail in the robbery case.
