At least 10 people were killed and 43 others were injured in six separate traffic accidents in the country on Wednesday. Our Faridpur correspondent reported at least four people were killed and 38 injured when a bus hit a roadside tree on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Mollikpur under Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased were Rina Akter, 25, Alamin, 14, Labu,13, and Nazmul, 22, residents of Modhukhali of the district.
A passenger bus of AH Jute Spinning Mill hit the tree when the driver lost control at about 3:00pm.
Local people rushed the injured to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where a further person died.
Three of the critically injured were sent to Dhaka whilst 20 were admitted to Faridpur General Hospital.
All the passengers of the bus were labours of the jute mill returning home after withdrawing their wage and Eid bonus.
Our Moulvibazar correspondent reported that at least two people were killed and five others were injured when a CNG collided head-on with a microbus on the Moulvibazar-Kulaura road in Rajnagar upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Following the accident, an angry mob blocked the road for an hour.
The police and witnesses said the accident occurred at Rajnagar Degree College, leaving auto-rickshaw driver Jalal Mia, 28, and his passenger Abdul Kuddus, 40, dead on the spot.
The 5 injured were admitted to different hospitals in the district.
In the capital, an unidentified rickshaw puller was killed in a traffic accident at Dayaganj in Gendaria on Wednesday morning.
Gendaria police sub-inspector Fairaz Hossain said a Dhopkhola to Mohammadpur-bound no.13 bus rammed the rickshaw at about 7:30am in front of City Oil mill, leaving the 55-year old rickshaw puller injured.
Local people rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Locals held the bus driver Babul, 45, and handed him over to police, who also seized the bus.
Our Kurigram correspondent reported an elderly woman, Kandri Bewa, 72, was killed when an auto rickshaw hit her from behind at about 12:00pm at Shahid Bazar in Phulbari upazila.
Phulbari police said the woman was crossing the road when the auto rickshaw hit her.
Local people rushed her to Phulbari Upazila Health complex where the doctors declared her dead.
A UNB report said two people were killed in two separate traffic accidents in Daudkandi upazila on Wednesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Almas, 22, from Sadar upazila of Narsingdi district and Abdul Karim, 20, from Maizpara village of Daudkandi upazila.
Witnesses said a sand-laden truck ran Almas over, helper of a Pepsi Company truck, leaving him dead on the spot at Swalpa Pellai about 3:00pm.
In another accident, a Dhaka-bound truck from Daudkandi fell into a roadside ditch leaving Abdul Karim, driver and owner of the truck, dead on the spot at about 4:00pm.
